Muppets From Space Movie Review

Muppets From Space Movie Still
Many critics will disagree with me, but I'm of the opinion that the Muppets, as characters, can do no wrong. Each Muppet has well-developed, quirky traits that make people of all ages love them. And that is what saved this film.

Unlike most of the other Muppet films, our featured star in this particular one is Gonzo. As we all know, Gonzo is a "Whatever", but this explanation of his species is no longer good enough for the long-nosed freak. He longs for family, and the satisfaction of knowing what he is. Then no sooner than you can say, "Wakka-Wakka", Gonzo's origins begin to reveal themselves. And they do this, ever so appropriately, through his breakfast cereal (well I thought it was funny).

But Gonzo is not the only one who sees these messages from outer space. For while Gonzo plans and communicates with his home planet, a top secret government company, plans to stop the arrival of the other "Whatevers", and conduct tests on the unsuspecting Gonzo. The top-secret bad guys pull into the lead when they trick Gonzo into going with them to their secret headquarters. To the rescue is the Muppet clan, which includes all of your old favorites, as well as some new faces. Now, I really don't want to give away the ending, but let me put it this way, it's nice and happy.

Technically speaking, Muppets from Space is not a great film. However, the silliness and excellent sight gags portrayed by the Muppets is what makes me give this film a good review. In comparison with other Muppet movies, I would rate this as my least favorite, but again, it's hard for them to do wrong. One thing that was hard for me to identify was the age group at which this movie was aimed. If I hadn't seen it, I would assume it was for the real little guys (and those of us who are 'real little' at heart). But this can't be. Over seventy-five percent of the humor is for the adult audience. I suppose all Muppet films are like this. But it stood out more in this one. Another thing I missed greatly, was the original music the Muppet movies are famous for, there was none! What was the deal with that? Oh well. In short, kids will enjoy it, but young adults and adults will get more laughs out of it.

Look for cameos by F. Murray Abraham (haven't seen him for years), Ray Liotta, Kathy Griffin and Rob Schnider among others. If you like Muppets or have kids, go see Muppets from Space.

Wakka wakka, indeed.
