Metropolis (2001) Movie Review

Anime retelling and updating of Fritz Lang's 1927 silent classic, depicting a quiet war between humans and robots (who do all the hard work). Some of the visuals are astounding -- combining 3D animation with traditional anime techniques -- but the story is quite protracted and ultimately a bit obvious. Lacking the ingenuity of, say, a Miyazaki film, but doubling up on the imagery makes for an interesting, though ultimately somewhat unfulfilling, experience.
