Unreedemable schlock, Blues Brothers 2000 is a blatant ripoff of the original. The script is virtually stolen verbatim, only perverted and twisted to seem different, while simultaneously robbing the film of all its originality, humor, wit, fire, and anything else that would make it watchable.
How bad are we talking? The "big crime" that has Aykroyd and Goodman (a very poor substitute for Belushi) on the run is the theft of $500. Then what? An hour of "putting the band back together," complete with Aretha Franklin singing "Respect." 30 minutes of concerts playing bluegrass and Caribbean music. And a big concert at the end where the cops show up. Two hours-plus, after all the cameos are thrown in.
Message to Hollywood: Make this franchise go away and you will have my undying loyalty.
