Singer Morrissey is extending his literary resume by writing his first novel.

The former The Smiths star became a publishing sensation last year (13) when his hotly-anticipated memoir, Autobiography, was named the U.K.'s fastest-selling rock book and spent five weeks at the top of the paperback chart.

The tome's success has inspired its writer to try another literary project, and Morrissey has now confirmed he is halfway through work on a novel.

In a question and answer session on the fansite, he writes, "In 2013 I published my Autobiography and it has been more successful than any record I have ever released, so, yes, I am mid-way through my novel. I have my hopes."
