They asked us not to forget about them and 30 years later we’ve kept our promise.
It’s been 30 years since John Hughes’ classic The Breakfast Club hit theatres and changed the teen movie landscape. So what better way is there to celebrate the iconic movie’s birthday, than by bringing it back to the cinemas for a whole new generation.
The Breakfast Club cast reunited in 2010
A restored version of the film will be shown in 430 U.S. theatres for two nights on March 26th and 31st beginning at 7:30 p.m. local time, as part of ‘The Breakfast Club 30th Anniversary’ celebrations presented by Fathom Events, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and BY Experience.
Along with the film a bonus featurette will also be shown including interviews with the cast as as filmmakers Diablo Cody, Amy Heckerling and Michael Lehman.
But if you can’t make it to a theatre to relive The Breakfast Club experience, a special 30th anniversary Blu-ray and DVD hits shelves on March 10th.
Starring Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Anthony Michael Hall, Emilio Estevez and Molly Ringwald, the coming of age film centered on five teenagers from different walks of life forced to spend a Saturday together in detention.
Regarded as one of the quintessential 80s films, the cast went on to become christened by the media as ‘The Brat Pack’, along with other young actors at the time including Demi Moore and Rob Lowe.
The film was a success both critically and commercially upon its release in 1985, but it has also gone on to amass a larger cult fanbase over the last three decades.
John Hughes, who wrote and directed the film along with other seminal 80s movies including Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Pretty in Pink, sadly passed away in 2009 following a heart attack. The writer and director was later honoured at 82nd Academy Awards ceremony when cast members from The Breakfast Club and other Hughes movies gathered on stage to celebrate his legacy.
