Organisers of the MUSIC OF BLACK ORIGIN AWARDS (MOBO) have slammed bosses of Wednesday's (09FEB05) BRIT AWARDS - for failing to honour any black artists.
The ceremony at London's Earls Court sparked a media frenzy, because even the winners of traditionally black genres were white - Joss Stone beat Anglo-African Jamelia to be named Best Urban Act and Best Female Artist, while rapper Mike Skinner won Best Male Solo Artist.
And MOBO bosses believe the ceremony's disregard for black musicians proves their ceremony is "as relevant today" as when it was founded, 10 years ago.
But a Brits spokesman counters, "The Brit Awards have promoted and honoured black music for years. The duet between Jamelia and Lemar was one of the highlights of Wednesday evening, even if neither artist won an award."11/02/2005 14:06
