Oscar winner Mira Sorvino was so moved by research she did to play an immigration agent in a new US mini-series about sex slavery, she has become a spokeswoman raising awareness about the sickening trade.

Sorvino stars opposite Robert Carlyle and Donald Sutherland in harrowing drama HUMAN TRAFFICKING and admits she couldn't walk away from the problem once filming ended.

She has since become an activist and recently took her cause to Washington DC, where she attempted to alert the Congressional Human Rights Caucus to the 21st century slavery problem.

She says, "People are put into a situation where they are coerced to work for no pay and basically owned by another person.

"One of these girls was sold to a paedophile when she was 15. She was snatched off the streets of Los Angeles."
