Miquita Oliver, the charismatic former presenter of such Channel 4 programs as 'Popworld' and host of 't4' has filed for bankruptcy following the revelation that she owed a substantial amount in unpaid taxes. It's a sad discovery for a TV personality who promised so much upon breaking through in 2001 aged just 16 as co-host on 'Popworld' alongside the now hugely successful Simon Amstell.
The UK's Metro newspaper reports that accountancy firm Baker Tilly Restructuring And Recovery read "HMRC had petitioned for Miss Oliver to be declared bankrupt for unpaid taxes amounting to £174,514.47. Due to the fact this amount had not been collected by the due date set by HMRC a Bankruptcy Order was issued to Miss Oliver in respect to the mentioned amount on 11 November 2011." Those figures sound grim, and her newly appointed trustee GEOFF CARTON-KELLY didn't sound particularly positive either, stating "At this stage it is too early to comment on the level of Miss Oliver's assets and the likely return to creditors."
Thank goodness for her publicist then, who - as they are paid to do - insisted the future was still looking bright for the 27 year-old despite this setback. "We can confirm that Miquita Oliver filed for bankruptcy in November 2011," they said, continuing "She has many projects in the pipeline both here and in the US for 2012." Oliver's career has petered out a little following her departure from 'Popworld' in 2006, continuing to present 't4' until being overheard insulting guest KE$HA behind her back by the singer's management. That led to suspension and subsequently her contract wasn't renewed, the star presenting her final 't4' in December 2010 - though she still pops up occasionally on movie specials.
