British star Minnie Driver has finished recording her debut album as a singer-songwriter - and insists her doubters will be proved wrong when they hear it.

The GOOD WILL HUNTING star has taken a break from her movie career over the last year to record the as-yet-untitled album.

She's been helped by rocker friends including Pete Yorn, who put her acclaimed track EVERYTHING IN MY POCKET on a new compilation album released through his label TRAMPOLINE RECORDS.

Minnie says, "I see it on people's faces, 'Oh my God, this is going to be a train wreck. I can't wait to write, 'Minnie Driver sucks ass!' on my website tonight.'

"But people are pleasantly surprised because it doesn't suck. That doesn't mean it's great yet. I just want to get out there and play."

The 33-year-old almost secured a major label record deal in 1994, until her breakthrough role in Circle of Friends convinced her to stick to acting.

She says, "I've been trying to tell people that I did this long before I was an actress. The road divided. I had to make a choice and music's been on hold ever since. I never stopped playing music, but just for myself."
