Tragic Mindy McCready's former Celebrity Rehab doctor Drew Pinsky has revealed the country singer was determined to get her mental state checked and her life back on track after the apparent suicide of her boyfriend a month ago.

MCCready became the fifth of Dr. Drew's Tv patients to die after appearing on the show when she took her own life on Sunday (17Feb13), just days after her two young sons were placed in foster care to allow their mum time to recover from the death of her partner, and Pinsky tells BuzzFeed.com he reached out to her as she attempted to get her life in order.

He says, "I am deeply saddened by this awful news. My heart goes out to Mindy's family and children. She is a lovely woman who will be missed by many.

"Although I have not treated her for few years, I had reached out to her recently upon hearing about the apparent suicide of her boyfriend and father of her younger child. She was devastated. Although she was fearful of stigma and ridicule she agreed with me that she needed to make her health and safety a priority.

"Unfortunately it seems that Mindy did not sustain her treatment."

The 37 year old passed away on Sunday after reportedly shooting herself.

She joins Alice In Chains bassist Mike Starr, actor Jeff Conaway, Rodney King and former Real World star Joey Kovar on the list of former Celebrity Rehab participants who have died.

A fifth season of the hit Vh1 show is set to debut in September (13).

Meanwhile, in related MCCready news, her alleged former lover, baseball legend Roger Clemens, has issued a statement after hearing of MCCready's death.

He writes: "I had heard over time that she was trying to get peace and direction in her life. The few times that I had met her and her manager/agent they were extremely nice."

In 2008, the New York Daily News reported that Clemens and MCCready had a decade-long love affair that started when the singer was 15. Clemens' lawyer Rusty Hardin insisted the singer was nothing more than a longtime family friend and that there was no romance.

MCCready later confirmed details of the affair but claimed her relationship with Clemens did not become sexual until after she was 18.
