Gil and Inez are young couple who decide to travel to France with Inez's family. Gil is a very successful screenwriter in Hollywood and when he announces to Inez that he wishes to write his debut novel, she's supportive bu not exactly taken with the idea. When the opportunity to visit Paris arises, both Inez and Gil - who's had a fascination with the city for many years-, feel it's a perfect vacation.
Gil is automatically taken in by the magical mythology and heritage that surrounds Paris and its past and present occupants. Whilst out for a meal, Inez spots an old friend, Paul, who she's had a 'thing' for since their time together at college. Inez enjoys Paul's charming and intellectual style, Gil finds him an insufferable bore. Feeling the need to escape from Inez's friends and disparaging family, Gil decides he's going to go on a night time walk through the streets to clear his head and discover 'real' Paris but what he actually discovers might just be the inspiration he needs for his novel.
