Governor Mike Pence faced a backlash last week (ends27Mar15) after he signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act into law, allowing business owners to use their religious beliefs as a defence if sued by a private party.

Equal rights activists and celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher, Miley Cyrus and gay actor George Takei spoke out against the ruling, claiming it legalises discrimination, and on Monday (30Mar15), Jeff Tweedy's band Wilco announced they were axing their 7 May (15) show in Indianapolis to protest the law.

Governor Pence ordered lawmakers to fix the issue and on Thursday (02Apr15), he signed a revised order which established limited protections for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) communities.

The move has prompted Tweedy and his bandmates to reconsider their cancelled gig and on Friday (03Apr15), they announced they will play Indiana after all after praising the change as "a good first step toward creating the sort of welcoming environment we encourage everywhere".

In a Facebook.com message, Wilco add, "We've been putting on shows with our neighbors in Indiana for more than 20 years and are happy to continue that at the Murat in May.

"We'll also donate a portion of the proceeds from this show to organizations fighting to build on the progress we hope this change makes in Indiana and beyond."
