The risqué new video for Miley Cyrus' new single, 'Wrecking Ball,' is now the record holder for most views in 24 hours
Miley Cyrus has destroyed the old record for most video views in 24 hours with her revealing and controversial music video for new single 'Wrecking Ball.' This is the second time the singer has broken this particular record, with her last music video; 'We Can't Stop' holding the record earlier this year until One Direction's 'Best Song Ever' broke the record in July 2013.
Miley has smashed the Vevo record for a second time
After 24 hours online, the new music video had managed to draw in a record smashing 19.3 million views, way more than 1D's 12.3 million views amassed earlier this year. Say what you like about the sultry, under-clothed singer, but she sure knows how to get the internet buzzing, thanks largely to her massive fanbase, which includes her 13.7 million Twitter followers. The former Disney starlet has a real knack for banging the drum ahead of a major new release, and will no doubt be firing up the anticipation ahead of the release of her upcoming album, titled Bangerz, as it's release fast approaches.
This is my no means the first time that Miley has asked for fans' assistance in ensuring her material is a success upon it's release. Following the release of her last single, she regularly updated her Twitter with requests encouraging her followers to help increase her video views and followers on the micro-blogging site. After breaking the record on Vevo on Tuesday (10 Sept.) morning, she then asked fans to purchase 'Wrecking Ball' on iTunes to bump it to No. 1, which it promptly did.
For their hard work, Miley rewarded her fans with an exclusive directors cut version of the 'We Can't Stop' video and a first time look at the album cover and deluxe track-list for Bangerz. Lady GaGa and 1D are other examples of artists who have used this approach to up their success. Bangerz is out on October 8.
