Miley Cyrus will guest host 'Saturday Night Live' next month.

The 18-year-old singer-and-actress is due to appear on the American comedy show on March 5 and will perform in a number of sketches with the original cast.

Now in its 36th season, the NBC programme is hugely popular with US audiences for its satiric commentary on culture and politics.

One of its best-loved sketches is one that pokes fun at the 'Climb' singer herself, with actress Vanessa Bayer parodying her in 'The Miley Cyrus Show' skits.

A separate musical guest - who is yet to be announced - will appear alongside Miley during her first stint on the show.

Each week a new celebrity opens the show with a monologue before acting with "the players" depicting comical situations.

Other recent high-profile 'SNL' guest hosts include Jim Carrey, Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges and Gwyneth Paltrow, who was joined by singer Cee Lo Green to sing his hit song 'F*** You'.
