A solid cast bodes well for this unnecessary remake of the 1982 movie (based on the 1970s musical), but the filmmakers' decision to turn the catchy songs into bland pop numbers is the real mistake. It leaves the entire film feeling empty, highlighting director Will Gluck's clunky direction, which includes coaxing Cameron Diaz to a squirm-inducingly over-the-top performance. Young children probably won't mind, but as the movie lurches awkwardly from one messy set piece to the next, the lack of a decently arranged musical number makes everything look dull and witless.
In Harlem, 10-year-old Annie (Quvenzhane Wallis) is an orphan living in a foster home with four other girls, run by the greedy Miss Hannigan (Diaz). Smart and quick-witted, Annie longs for a day when she can be reunited with her parents. Then she has a run-in with Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx), a workaholic mobile phone executive who's running for New York mayor. Will's advisor Guy (Bobby Cannavale) suggests that he take Annie in temporarily to boost his poll numbers, and once settled in his spacious penthouse apartment she immediately charms Will's assistant Grace (Rose Byrne) and driver Nash (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). And she begins to work her way into Will's heart as well.
From here, Gluck completely misses the point of the play, trying desperately to crank up a ridiculous scam subplot into some big final-act action mayhem. But this never gains any traction at all because it's clear what has to happen in the story. Indeed, the best thing on screen is the strong chemistry between Foxx and Wallis, who find moments of genuine humour and connection even in the silliest slapstick. And they seem almost reluctant every time they have to dive into yet another insipidly revamped song. Pop star Sia worked on them, but loses all the charm in the attempt to turn each one into a chart-topping clone. Fans of the original music will enjoy the brief riffs of the originals audible here and there, and they'll leave the cinema wanting to revisit the old numbers instead of these Frankenstein versions.

After giving birth only two months ago, the Hollywood star has nearly lost all her pregnancy weight...by breastfeeding.
Ashton Kutcher and his fiancé Mila Kunis welcomed a baby girl into the world in Los Angeles on October 1st, and the first-time mother already has lost a lot of her post-pregnancy weight, which she apparently achieved by breastfeeding.

There are moments when this three-strand drama almost ascends to the emotional resonance of writer-director Paul Haggis' Oscar-winning 2004 movie Crash. Perhaps even more ambitious, this film is exploring issues of creativity, attraction and grief, but Haggis puts so much effort into the literary trickery that he fails to create characters the audience can connect with. So the drama ends up being interesting but never moving.
The central plot-thread is in Paris, where blocked writer Michael (Liam Neeson) is holed up in a hotel after leaving his wife (Kim Basinger) and arranging to meet his whip-smart mistress Anna (Olivia Wilde). But their witty romance seems to get entangled with his struggle to write a new novel. Meanwhile in Rome, dodgy American businessman Scott (Adrien Brody) meets Monika (Moran Atias), a sexy Roma woman trying to rescue her kidnapped daughter from local gangsters. With his own haunting back-story involving a lost child, Scott offers to help. And in New York, fallen soap-star Julia (Mila Kunis) has hired a lawyer (Maria Bello) in an effort to get custody of her son from her wealthy-painter ex (James Franco). But her life has gone so far off the rails that it's unlikely any judge will see things her way.
There's a clear sense that these storylines are swirling around in Michael's head as he tries to write. Each character has parent-child issues, including the event that sent Michael's career into a downward spiral. But Haggis never quite defines all of this, leaving ideas and themes dangling everywhere without connecting them to authentic people or experiences. So it's very difficult to get involved in any of the story strands, even though the actors deliver open, raw performances. Kunis has the film's strongest role, a complex journey into the aching soul of a mother, and she plays it beautifully. And Bello finds some moments of consuming emotion in her smaller part. Everything else feels rather cliched, from Neeson and Wilde's cute-prickly romantic games to Brody's journey to the dark side of Italy.

It’s not the strangest Hollywood baby name ever, but we were all still wondering.
It’s been nearly a month since Mila Kunis and fiancee Ashton Kutcher welcomed their first child, Wyatt Isabelle, and the couple seem to be settling into parenthood perfectly. Giving his first interview since becoming a dad, Kutcher opened up to Conan O’Brien last night (October 28th), about how he and Mila have been coping so far, as well as revealing the story behind their daughter’s unusual name.
Kutcher said that he and Kunis feel “privileged” they can afford to take time with their new baby. “We don't have a nanny or a night nurse or anything. It's just the two of us,” the actor said.
Mila Kunis "was born to be a mom" and Ashton Kutcher is "ecstatic", sources claim a week after the birth of their daughter.

While the story centres on twisted moral dilemmas, this 1970s-set thriller takes such a hesitant, internalised approach that if never lets viewers under the characters' skin. As a result, there's virtually no spark of real life here, despite the presence of several fine actors and a twisty plot that focusses on how decisions affect relationships. It's an oddly muted approach to events that really should have a much stronger emotional jolt.
It's 1974 Brooklyn, where Chris (Clive Owen) has just been released after 10 years in prison. His police detective brother Frank (Billy Crudup) offers help with finding a place to stay, getting a job and escaping his former life of crime, but the options are limited. While trying to reconnect with his junkie-prostitute ex Monica (Marion Cotillard), Chris also begins dating the younger Natalie (Mila Kunis). And he finds himself drifting back into his old gangster role. This causes a conflict of interest for Frank in his work as a cop, especially since he's further compromised by having an affair with Vanessa (Zoe Saldana), whose boyfriend (Matthias Schoenaerts) he's just put in jail.
Filmmaker Guillaume Canet is remaking the 2008 French thriller Rivals (in which he played the Frank character), and he recreates the period beautifully, shooting the film in a grainy 1970s style that emphasises character over action. So it's odd that the characters feel so thinly written, with most of the ambiguity drained from each moral issue they face. Much of this is because everyone is pushing their emotions away and internalising their thought processes so no one else can see them. But this leaves the audience out in the cold. And as a result, everything feels obvious and inevitable, which makes it impossible to get involved as events escalate. It's as if these people are tragic losers, so no amount of sympathy will save them.

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have got a busy future ahead of them.
The former 'That 70s Show' stars have to plan a wedding and prepare to welcome their first child into the world.
But Kunis recently recalled the moment the pair first became an item, which was a huge surprise to many people.
Mila Kunis discusses Ashton Kutcher's marriage proposal and how pregnancy has made her breasts "amazing."
Mila Kunis has revealed that pregnancy has made her breasts “amazing.” The Ted 2 actress explained: “They’re amazing! They’ve tripled in size. I was a 34A; now I’m a 36C. I’m so excited! I’m telling everyone I know, 'Go ahead, touch them!' Without being an a**hole, I have to say, I love being pregnant.”

Why on Earth have the Wachowskis put the skids on their dazzling summer blockbuster?
Jupiter Ascending won't see release until February next year, it has recently been announced. The unusual, late minute move marks the movie's opening pushed back seven months despite promotion for the sci-fi blockbuster having reached a peak.
We were excited way back in March for the Wachowski brothers futuristic slingshot into space, which stars Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum and Sean Bean but have now been told that we'll have to wait until next February to see the movie's special effects, which look to be awesome.
It is actually the special effects department that has reportedly delayed the movie. "With the July release date, they were just not going to make it on time," said Warner Bros. domestic distribution chief Dan Fellman, via Variety. "A lot of the issue for us was getting it ready for the international release, since the foreign territories need additional time."
Continue reading: Huh? 'Jupiter Ascending' Given Last Minute Delay In Release Date
Change your diaries, we’re going to have to wait until next year for 'Jupiter Ascending'.
It’s time to change our summer viewing plans, because sadly, Jupiter Ascending will not be coming to a theatre near you this July. The Wachowskis’ ‘space opera’, starring Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum was scheduled for release on July 18th 2014, but now it won't be coming to us until next February!
It's now a much longer wait for Jupiter Ascending
So why the change? Well, apparently it’s all down to those tricky visual effects. If you’ve seen the trailer, you’ll know that Jupiter Ascending is heavy on the special effects, so it’s no real surprise that they could be the cause of the hold up. Dan Fellman, Warner Bros’ president of domestic distribution said, “We’ve been trying like hell to get this finished, but there are over 2,000 visual effects shots in the movie, and it’s just not gonna happen in time.”
Could the trailer's poor reception have anything to do with the delay?
Jupiter won’t be ascending this summer. Warner Bros’ ambitious project was due to open in theaters this coming July, but apparently the production has encountered some unexpected delays. As a result, Jupiter Ascending’s release is being pushed back eight whole months to January 2015. The latest film from siblings Andy and Lana Wachowski has been delayed due to “unfinished visual effects”, according to Dan Fellman, Warner Bros’ president of domestic distribution.
The film's 2000+ visual effects are proving to be a bigger challenge than expected.
“We’ve been trying like hell to get this finished,” Fellman said. “But there are over 2,000 visual effects shots in the movie, and it’s just not gonna happen in time.” This also means a completely different release slot for Jupiter Ascending. The January release eliminates the threat of summer box office competition – although this July isn’t particularly heavy on new releases, with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (July 11) being the only real competitor.
Derided by critics and ignored by audiences, where did it all go wrong for the Robin Williams and Mila Kunis vehicle?
It had the promise to be a supremely enjoyable farcical comedy, yet The Angriest Man In Brooklyn has positively bombed across the board, receiving a paltry 13% on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics loathe it whilst audiences are equally unenthused after a slew of damning reviews posited the film as an appalling failure that benefits nobody- cast or audience. But where did it all go wrong?
Kulis' performance has been singled out as particularly bland.
The film itself is a remake of the Israeli film called The 92 Minutes Of Mr. Baum and the plot seems to fit succinctly with Robin Williams’s trademark style of hyperactive comedy and melancholy redemption. A cantankerous man is wrongly informed by his doctor that he only has ninety minutes to live, prompting Williams character, Henry Altman, on a race against time to make amends with his family members who he has mistreated over the years. Henry’s doctor, played by Mila Kunis, suffers a lapse of judgement after being in the midst of a bad day herself, and scurries across Brooklyn to track down Henry and correct her mis-diagnosis.

Their last outing ‘Cloud Atlas’ received a mixed response from critics, some thought it was an ambitious success which thoroughly paid off, while others found it a bit too much on all levels. If it’s an ambitious project you’re looking for, though, you might want to turn your attention to ‘Jupiter Ascending’. This intergalactic sci-fi adventure might just be the best showcase of the Wachowski’s writing and visual talents since the first ‘Matrix’.

Tiny Fey has announced there will not be a sequel to 'Mean Girls', she may have done the right thing, if these other bad movie sequels are anything to go by!
Sorry to break it to you all of you Mean Girls’ fans who were vying for a sequel. Ms. Norbury AKA Tina Fey AKA scriptwriter of the original film, has gone on record to say “If everyone’s around, we might try to do some kind of like panel discussion. But it’s not like - it’s not another movie. At most it would be like a panel discussion with a plate of hot wings”. That is so NOT fetch, Tina!
Tina Fey has denied there will be a sequel to Mean Girls

First comes love, then comes... a shared gig on Kutcher's sitcom.
Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are already engaged, so why not add a little screen love on top of it? Kunis will join her co-star on That 70s Show and now in life in his own show, as his love interest no less. According to the New York Daily News, Kunis will play Vivian, a traveler who unexpectedly drops into the life of Kutcher's Walden and has an instant connection with him. But there's a plot twist, of course. Walden is about to propose to someone else.
Onscreen and off, the two were inseparable, even before the engagement announcement.
This could be a great thing for the show. Since the two actors starred together on That 70s Show for eight consecutive seasons, we already know that they have on-screen chemistry.
It's not a case of director/actor conflict for 'Ted 2', just a creative decision.
Seth Macfarlane is replacing Mila Kunis with Amanda Seyfried as the female lead in Ted 2. According to Deadline, Kunis will either appear in a small role in the sequel or not appear at all. Apparently there’s no bad blood between Kunis and Macfarlane. The casting change was just a creative decision and Kunis continues to provide the voice of Meg Griffin on MacFarlane’s longrunning Family Guy.
Kunis [l] is out, to be replaced with Amanda Seyfried [r].
There might be some dramatic twist coming in the Ted sequel, if Kunis’ character Lori Collins is no longer in the picture. At the end of Ted Lori married Mark Wahlberg's John Bennett, so there must be some shakeup in the story – either between the two movies or at the beginning of the second one. The rest of the primary cast – Mark Wahlberg and MacFarlane himself as the voice of the foul-mouthed teddy bear – are, of course, reprising their roles.

On the face of it, females topping the list looks like progression, but is it a manifestation of a male dominated field?
Emma Stone sits proudly atop the Forbes list of best value Hollywood stars with a return of $80 per $1 invested in her. Mila Kunis, Jennifer Lawrence and Natalie Portman behind her in a list dominated by young female actors. But are women only dominating this list due to inequality in Hollywood?
Emma Stone is officially the most lucrative actor, according to Forbes
Stone appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man, which was the biggest reason for her topping the list. The superhero film earned $750m, but it was Stone’s comparatively low wage for the film that garnered the lucrative ratio. If she’d been on par with some of the male actors in the film, that stat woudn’t have been so ‘attractive’.
