British director Mike Newell has been confirmed as the director of the
fourth Harry Potter movie.
The Four Weddings And A Funeral director will commence work on Harry
POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE next April (03).
Newell says, "I'm very excited about directing Harry Potter and the Goblet
"As audiences have become more familiar with both the books and the
movies, there has been an increasing challenge to continue to develop each of
these characters and to make their world real on screen."
Producer David Heyman adds, "He has worked with children, made us laugh,
and had us sitting on the edge of our seats, He is great with actors and imbues
all his characters, all his films, with great humanity. I'm thrilled."
Newell follows Chris Columbus, who helmed the first two wizard adventures,
and Mexican Alfonso Cuaron, who is currently filming HARRY POTTER AND THE
PRISONER OF AZKABAN.
Hertfordshire-born Newell, 61, has recently completed Mona Lisa Smile,
with Julia Roberts, and was also behind Donnie Brasco and Pushing Tin.
