Damien: Omen II Review

Very Good
Somewhat unfairly maligned as a hokey, schlocky series, The Omen has always been far more sinister series than its sequel-happy reputation would indicate. The movies are about the devil's son wreaking havoc on earth, for God's sake -- and not only is that about the most classically "evil" character you can get, he also tend to be unstoppable. Good never triumphs in these movies. But really, it can't... how would they keep making sequels?

No longer a toddler, Damien: Omen II finds our young antichrist shipped to Chicago to live with his aunt (Lee Grant) and uncle (William Holden -- yeah, that William Holden). He's a hugely successful titan of industry, which is perfect for Damien: Eventually he'll become the boss of Thorn Industries, a great vantage point for ruling the world as the dark lord.

Get Carter (1971) Review

OK
Michael Caine plays Jack Carter, a hired gun who is out to avenge the death of his brother, Payback style, by beating up and killing off the guys who ordered his brother's killing. Filled with low-budget action and low-budget eroticism, Michael Caine unfortunately does not make much of an impression as a rough-and-tumble gangster. The picture has its moments, the most memorable of which is when Carter addresses an envelope of evidence to be mailed to "The Vice Squad." Not awful, but hardly a classic.

Owen Misses Own Premiere

Clive Owen Mike Hodges Get Carter King Arthur

Hunky actor Clive Owen left director Mike Hodges furious when he managed to be late for the London premiere of their new movie I'LL SLEEP WHEN I'M DEAD.

The Get Carter filmmaker was left incredulous when Owen missed the screening of the picture because he was called back to re-shoot scenes on big budget film King Arthur.

Hodges told reporters at London's SCREEN ON THE GREEN cinema, "A $100 million plus film shot over a year had to have a re-shoot on the day of Clive's premiere. Ours was made for GBP5 million and was shot in 28 days."
