The comedian is said to be considering the role of Pryor’s father LeRoy.
Eddie Murphy is said to be in talks to join the cast of the as-yet-untitled Richard Pryor biopic, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film is being produced by the Weinstein Co, with award winning director Lee Daniels behind the camera.

Murphy is being line up to play the late comedian’s father, LeRoy, a boxer and WWII veteran, whose abusive relationship with his son was the subject of many of Pryor’s routines. Pryor himself will be played by Mike Epps, best known for his role in Next Friday.

The biopic is also being produced by Pryor’s widow Jennifer Lee Pryor along with award winning producer Bruce Cohen. Kate Hudson is also said to be in talks to join the biopic as Jennifer, who was married to the comedian twice, first from 1981 to 82 and then in 2001 until his death.
On Thursday Daniels teased Murphy’s involvement, posting a picture of the two together on Instagram along with the caption “Strap in and brace yourself. They done let me and him out of our cages! #idonteventhinkimreadyforthisone! #excited #proud #OMG.”

Alongside directing Oscar nominated films Precious and The Butler, Daniels is also the creator of ‘Empire’, Fox’s drama centering around a hip hop music and entertainment company. The series has so far received positive reviews from critics and audiences and has already been renewed for a second season.
