Midge Ure is to be made an honorary Doctor of Music by Scotland's University of Edinburgh. It will be the Live Aid and Live 8 organiser's second such honour - last year (05) he was awarded with a similar accolade from the University of Abertay Dundee . Ure left school at 15 to become an apprentice engineer before pursuing a career in music. The Scottish singer, who co-wrote the Band Aid hit DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS? with Bob Geldof, is a keen charity worker organising numerous concerts. Last year, the former ULTRAVOX singer's services to music and charity were honoured by Queen Elizabeth II who made him an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
