Formula 17 Review


OK
It can seem unfair to call any movie a "gay movie." After all, we don't usually talk about "straight movies." But it must be said that Formula 17 is a really gay movie, at least in the sense that every character who appears on the screen is gay. Straight people simply never show up in this depiction of bustling Taipei. It's a world of gay gyms, gay clubs, gay roommates, and gay fashion.

17-year-old Tien (Tony Yang) is new in town, having dragged his red suitcase to the big city after a rough year in school. (His erotic dreams blend sex with math formulas.) He's hoping to crash with his old buddy Yu (Chin King), find a summer job, and lose his virginity, perhaps with a "friend" he's met on the Internet.
