Michelle Williams will star in a Broadway production of the musical Cabaret as seductive and troubled singer Sally Bowles. The production will mark William's Broadway debut.

Famously, Liza Minelli took the role of Bowles starring opposite Michael York in the 1972 film adaptation. The musical is based on The Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood, and tells the story of American cabaret singer Sally Bowles who performs at the Kit Kat Klub in Berlin. Brian Roberts, a naive British graduate, is befriended by the vivacious Bowles and the two have an affair set against the backdrop of interwar Germany.

Sam Mendes will direct the show, which will hopefully be as successful as his West End Charlie and the Chocolate Factory production was. Starring in the production, alongside Williams, is Alan Cumming as the Emcee.

Rob Marshall, co-director and choreographer, highly praised the two actors abilities. As Entertainment Weekly reported, Marshall said "Michelle Williams is an actress of rare gifts and she will make an astonishing Sally Bowles. And I am especially excited that Alan Cumming is reprising his extraordinary performance as the Emcee for a whole new audience to experience."

Williams is best known for her roles in My Week With Marilyn, Oz the Great and Powerful and Shutter Island. Whilst Alan Cumming is a brilliant stage actor -he was award the Olivier Award for his performance in Accidental Death of an Anarchist- and has featured in numerous films including X-Men 2, Emma and The Anniversary Party.

The show will run for 24 weeks at the Kit Kat Klub: Studio 54. Previews of the show begin on March 21st 2014, with the play's official opening slated for the 24th April 2014.
