Controversial director Michael Winterbottom has furiously walked out on the soccer movie GOAL! due to "creative differences".

The 43-year-old directed early material for the $101 million (GBP55 million) film - including footage from British team NEWCASTLE'S 3-0 UEFA CUP win against Spanish side REAL MALLORCA - but has left the disgruntled co-producer MILKSHAKE FILMS seeking a new director.

The film - which features Mexican actor DIEGO LUNA star of Dirty Dancing: HAVANA NIGHTS as an American Latino footballer - is part of a trilogy which will hit cinema screens in February next year (05) to coincide with the 2006 soccer WORLD CUP.

Winterbottom's latest film NINE SONGS caused controversy at this year's Cannes Film Festival for featuring scenes of unsimulated sex.
