Michael Strahan is joining Good Morning America, following the departure of Josh Elliot, it has been confirmed. ABC sources tell TMZ.com that Strahan will appear during the 08:00 hour of the show, around 3-4 times per week. Insiders say Strahan will act as a “utility player”, presenting features, lifestyle, entertainment, sports – pretty much whatever needs coveing.

Good Morning America is a $300 million cash cow for ABC, but it’s beginning to lose ground. Josh Elliot’s departure for NBC on Sundays came out of the blue and Sam Champion is already gone. Lara Spencer and Amy Robach are apparently feuding, meaning Strahan is walking into a war zone.

“They’re on the verge of signing the deal,” another source told the New York Daily News, “It could be announced this week.”

Under the new arrangement, Strahan would do double duty at ABC, keeping his gig as co-host of “Live with Kelly & Michael.”

ABC executives have been wooing Strahan to join the show since he substituted for Robin Roberts on the show last year, when she was on sick leave.

“They’ve been in love with him since he subbed for Robin,” the source said.

Strahan was the surprise choice to join Kelly Ripa permanently on “Live with Kelly & Michael” in 2012, after 16 appearances as Ripa’s temporary co-host.

He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, in February.
