It is looking increasingly likely that the former football star Michael Strahan will become Kelly Ripa's co-host on Live!. Multiple sources with inside knowledge of the situation have revealed that the Fox Sports presenter will be taking over as the show's co-host, according to an exclusive report on Broadcasting and Cable. It is expected that Strahan will retain his current role on Fox Nfl Sunday (as Joe Flint of Los Angeles Times first reported).
ABC are expected to make an official announcement about Strahan's appointment in September but it is thought that he will continue to present Fox's Nfl programming from Los Angeles on the weekend and work from New York for Live!, one of Abc's long-running flagship franchises. Michael will fill the role that was vacated when Regis Philbin left the show late last year. Kelly Ripa has been without a permanent sidekick on the show since then, as Abc looked for a suitable replacement. A number of temporary hosts have passed through the studio - many of them assumed to be using their guest slots as auditions for a permanent role. Michael Strahan was one of those, as was Seth Meyers.
Michael Strahan was a defensive star player for the Nfl during his sporting career. He's no stranger to being in front of the camera, though, having plenty of sports presenting experience to call on, as well as briefly starring in the sitcom Brothers, on the Fox network.
