American director Michael Moore recently encouraged his fellow Democrats to take a leaf out of the Republicans' book and secure a celebrity as a future presidential candidate.

Moore, speaking at a lunch to celebrate his documentary FAHRENHEIT 9/11 picking up the NEW YORK FILM CRITICS award for Best Non-Fiction Film, aimed his campaigning comments at an audience including actress Faye Dunaway, actor Griffin Dunne and When Harry Met Sally writer Nora Ephron.

And Moore believes the Democrats need a figurehead such as the Republican California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

He said, "Who's our Arnold? Republicans run people who are stars. When we run people who are stars - rock star Bill Clinton, movie star JOHN KENNEDY - we win.

"Who wouldn't vote for Caroline Kennedy? Who wouldn't vote for Tom Hanks?"
