Ryder starred alongside Christian Slater in the 1989 movie, about four girls who form a clique at a suburban high school, and she recently claimed a follow-up is on its way, with the True Romance actor also on board to return to Westerberg High.
She told film bible Empire magazine of her most iconic role, "Whatever you hear, there is a sequel in the works, I swear to God.
"But for some reason the writer, Dan Waters, and director, Michael Lehman, don't want to talk about it. I've been wanting to do a sequel forever. There is a story, and Christian has agreed to come back."

Director Michael Lehmann may not be a household name, but anyone who was a teenager in the late 1980s knows his best work. He's the man who made "Heathers," that subversive, sardonic teen angst flick that acted as an antidote to the decade's inescapable onslaught of weightlessly formulaic John Hughes high school comedies like "Pretty In Pink" and "Sixteen Candles."
After helping launch the careers of Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, who played the very dark comedy's romantic semi-psychos on an in-crowd murder spree, Lehmann moved on to a hit-and-miss career ("Airheads" and "The Truth About Cats & Dogs" in the plus column, "My Giant" and "Hudson Hawk" in the minus) that afforded him opportunities to work with big budget and even bigger stars. Bruce Willis, Adam Sandler, Uma Thurman and Billy Crystal have all starred in Lehmann movies.

The Hollywood beauty - who was forced to take a break from her career while on trial for stealing goods from plush Los Angeles store Saks Fifth Avenue in 2002 - is reuniting with director Michael Lehmann in independent comedy MARY WARNER.
Ryder will play a slacker actress who experiences a series of life-changing misadventures after eating a batch of marijuana-laced brownies made by her roommate.
