Michael Jackson's courtroom appearance for his child molestation battle today (16AUG04) is expected to be a fierce showdown between him and longtime nemesis District Attorney Tom Sneddon.

The BAD singer's parents Joe and KATHERINE and sibling Janet, LaToya, JERMAINE and JACKIE are also expected to be in attendance to listen to Santa Barbara County District Attorney TOM SNEDDON testifying against the superstar in Santa Maria, California.

Sneddon also tried to bring child molestation charges against Jackson in 1993 - a confrontation so bitter that Jackson wrote an angry song, 1995's D.S., which slams Sneddon.

Today, Jackson's lawyer, TOM MESEREAU JR, will question Sneddon about his actions in the weeks before the current charges against Jackson were filed. The defence is seeking to show that Sneddon invaded the sanctity of the attorney-client privilege between Jackson and his former attorney.

Jackson has not been required to attend pretrial hearings, but he decided he wanted to be present for this confrontation.

Jackson's spokesperson says, "Michael's life is on the line and if the district attorney is on the stand it's very important for him to be there."

Jackson, 45, is charged with committing a lewd act upon a child, administering an intoxicating agent and conspiring to commit child abduction, false imprisonment and extortion. He has pleaded not guilty and is free on $3 million (GBP1.6 million) bail.
