Actor Michael Jace shot his wife on Monday night, before calling the police on himself. According to law enforcement sources, Jace called 911 around 8.30pm and told police "I shot my wife."

TMZ.com were told that Jace's neighbours in the Hyde Park area of Los Angeles had reported shots fired in the home and shortly thereafter Jace made his call to 911. Sources say the actor stayed on the phone, as instructed, until the LAPD arrived and found his 40-year-old wife April Jace dead. Police confirmed that children were in the home at the time of the shooting
Officer Sara Faden told the Los Angeles Times: "It looks to have started as a domestic-related incident."
Best known as Detective Lowe from The Shield, Jace was taken into custody and as of 1.00am on Tuesday was being questioned, but had not been booked for his wife's death. Jace has also appeared in Planet of the Apes and Forrest Gump, as well as co-starring alongside Russell Crowe in the drama State of Play. His other television credits include Southland, Burn Notice and The Mentalist. .
Since 2007, at least 57 homicides have been reported within a mile of the shooting scene.
The actor was previously married to Jennifer Bitterman before divorcing in 2002.
The Shield ran for seven season and received high critical acclaim, as well as several awards and nominations. It won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Drama in 2002. Michael Chiklis won both the Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Lead Actor in a drama in 2002.
