Prometheus 2 will hit cinemas in March 2016 though may take on a different movie title, according to The Wrap. An insider confirmed that production is scheduled to start this fall, once Ridley Scott has delivered his Moses movie Exodus, to Fox.

The sci-fi sequel will be re-written by veteran movie scribe Michael Green, who worked with Scott on Blade Runner and recently penned the derided Green Lantern movie. Jack Paglen (Transcendence) had written the original draft of the screenplay.

Prometheus served as an unofficial prequel to Scott's seminal 1979 sci-fi movie Alien and the sequel will apparently be far more "alien-y" and in-line with the terrifying tones of the original classic. Additionally, the sequel is expected to be heavy on Michael Fassbender's character David the android - who may appear in multiple forms.

The first film starred Noomi Rapace as a God-fearing archaeologist Elizabeth Shaw, tasked with finding the 'Engineers' - an alien race that served as the architects of humanity. Fassbender's David ultimately helped Shaw return to earth though the last shot featured an alien creature bursting out of an Engineer's chest - hinting at the direction of the sequel.

Relive the 'Prometheus' trailer:

Michael Green is writing the Prometheus script alongside a new Blade Runner movie, though Fox are prioritizing Prometheus 2 after it grossed $400 million worldwide. Green had previously on Smallville and Heroes and he is writing The Flash for Warner Bros.

It's shaping up to be a busy few years for Fassbender, who has no less than seven projects in some form of production. He recently finished work on X-Men: Days of Future Past and an untitled Terrence Malick project and is currently shooting Justin Kurzel's Macbeth, in which he plays the title character. After that, there's an Assassin's Creed movie and Genius about the legendary editor Max Perkins, who oversaw works by Thomas Wolfe, Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and others.
