Michael Fassbender shared a joke with Tilda Swinton when he trod on her dress on the red carpet. The incident started with a near-miss, when he told the actress that he almost stood on her floor-length gown. According to a behind-the-scenes report on Yahoo News, Swinton then began to walk away but had to stop abruptly when she felt a foot on her hemline, stopping her from moving. Fassbender laughed and told her that it was deliberate that time.
Tilda Swinton was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama. She lost out to Meryl Streep, who played the role of Margaret Thatcher in Iron Lady. This year marks the third time that Tilda Swinton has been nominated for a Golden Globe but has not won. Fassbender as nominated in the same category, but for Best Actor, for his role in Shame. He also lost out, to George Clooney's performance in The Descendents. This was Fassbender's first Golden Globe nomination.
Theirs was not the only incident of red carpet dress-tripping. Jessica Biel had to turn around to inform the pop star Madonna that she had trodden on her delicate cream lace gown, as well. The design of the dress meant that Jessica already had one very revealing split at the front of her gown. Presumably she was keen not to add another.
