Michael Douglas was doubtful Shia LaBeouf could carry off his part in 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' like Charlie Sheen did in the original
The 65-year-old actor had concerns about whether Shia, who plays Jacob 'Jake' Moore, could match the performance Charlie Sheen gave in the original 1987 movie as ambitious young stockbroker Bud Fox.
Speaking about Shia, Michael - who won the Best Actor Oscar for his role as Gordon Gekko in 'Wall Street' - said: "We were not sure he had the chops. As you remember from the first, Charlie Sheen carried the movie, Gordon Gekko had very colourful parts, but it was not every scene."
Michael believes the time is right to revisit his unscrupulous corporate character because of the current global economic crisis.
He told Access Hollywood: "There was a recession when the first movie arrived in 1987. There's a recession now. It's an interesting time, sort of 22 years later, Gekko going to jail. He comes out, no money, can't trade, what happens?"
