ox office forecasters are predicting that this will be one of those rare weekends when a Will Smith movie will open well below the leader. After Earth, a sci-fi action flick starring Will Smith and 14-year-old son Jaden, is likely to earn just $30-35 million this weekend, according to tracking studies. Not bad, but the second week of Fast and Furious, which debuted with $117 million over the Memorial Day weekend, is likely to see around $40 million in its second week. Another newcomer, the crime drama Now You See Me, has failed to create much buzz, despite a cast that includes Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman. It's likely to earn around $15-20 million. After Earth was not shown to critics until virtually the last minute and most reviews have been dreadful. Now You See Me has drawn mixed-to-positive notices, sometimes in the same review. For example, Stephen Holden in The New York Times comments that in the beginning the movie amounts to an enjoyable goof that in its giddy way evokes a world propelled by technological wizardry. However, by the end, he concludes, it has become a dull, frenetic chase movie.
