SIR Michael Caine's classic 1971 movie Get Carter has beaten TRAINSPOTTING to the title of best British movie of all time.

The gangster film, which shows the OSCAR-winning actor as ruthless killer Jack Carter, won the accolade from Britain's TOTAL FILM, followed by DAVID NIVEN's wartime movie A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH and Danny Boyle's BAFTA-winning drama Trainspotting.

The magazine's editor MATT MUELLER says, "Get Carter was slated at the time, but Caine's character is now seen as one of the greatest anti-heroes. It marks the pinnacle of his career."
