Michael Buble was forced to make an early exit from the Juno Awards in Canada to ensure his fiancee wasn't left stranded by the travel chaos caused by Iceland's volcanic eruption.
The star scooped four trophies at the annual music ceremony on Sunday (18Apr10), including the top single and album honours and the Juno Fan Choice Award.
But he wasn't able to stay at the Mile One Centre in St. John's to celebrate his wins.
Buble and his partner Luisana Lopilato were whisked away from the venue to the local airport so the actress/singer could catch a plane to fulfil her presenting commitments for an Argentinian TV show - amid fears she would be stranded in Canada due to the cloud of ash drifting across the Atlantic from Iceland.
Buble explains, “I spoke to a pilot just now who told me that the ash cloud would be coming here by 3 a.m. and it could be another three days before anyone can get out of here.
“I don’t want to be the guy who brings everyone down. It wouldn’t be that bad to have to stay here for another three days but for her it would.”
