LATEST: British TV star Michael Barrymore is facing further police investigation over the man who drowned at his English mansion five years ago (01). Factory employee STUART LUBBOCK, 31, was found dead in the swimming pool of Barrymore's Essex home in March 2001 after a party. Lubbock's severe injuries lead police and his family to believe he had been sexually assaulted, but an open verdict was recorded at his inquest and no one has been charged in connection with the death. Barrymore refused to speak publicly about the incident and fled Britain for a new life in New Zealand with his partner SHAUN DAVIS. However, his publicist TONY COWELL reveals the entertainer is unperturbed by the police review, announced yesterday (19APR06), and is happy to cooperate with police. Barrymore said, "I welcome the news that the case is to be reviewed. I have always maintained that I would do all I can to help both the police and the Lubbock family. "I also told TERRY LUBBOCK (victim's father), when I met with him earlier this year, that I would do anything to help him bring this case to an end." A police spokeswoman maintains the review is common practice in unexplained death cases, but reveals Barrymore could face further questioning. She says, "We have begun a routine review of the inquiry and that is at a very early stage. A team of officers will look at the file and everything that has happened since."
