Mia thinks the whole thing is stupid.
MIA won't go down without a fight
Now, MIA is being sued by the NFL for breach of contract, something MIA describes as “ridiculous” in a YouTube video, which strangely shows her on the phone, explaining her feelings on the litigation.
"So now [the NFL is] scapegoating me into figuring out the goal posts on what is offensive in America," said the 38-year-old ."Like, is my finger offensive or is an underage black girl with her legs wide open more offensive to the family audience?"
"They want me on my knees and say sorry so they can slap me on my wrists. And basically say it's okay for me to promote being sexually exploited as a female than to display female empowerment through being punk rock," she explained. "That is what it boils down to, and I'm being sued for it."
Unfortunately for MIA, the sheer power of the NFL, the nature of the gesture and the fact it was seen by millions, means it’s probably curtains for that $1.5m the sports federation are looking for.
But MIA’s point is clear: her middle finger is not more offensive than a bunch of, as she alleges, 15/16-year-old girls with their legs spread, dancing in provocative positions. And if it is, then America needs to realign its priorities. If only pure logic could be used as evidence in a courtroom.
