Metallica rocker Lars Ulrich has paid tribute to guitarist 'DIMEBAG' Darrell Abbott and the other victims of last week's (08DEC04) Damageplan concert killings.

Drummer Ulrich was devastated when he heard ex-Marine Nathan Gale had shot and killed four people, including former PANTERA star Abbott, at a gig in Columbus, Ohio. Police then shot Gale dead.

In a statement of Metallica's website, Ulrich says, "This is unbelievable. To sit here and talk about Darrell in the past tense seems so wrong, so unfair, so unjust, I don't even know what to say.

"My heart goes out to Vinnie (PAUL, Abbot's brother and Damageplan's drummer), to their families, to the other band members, and to the families and friends of the other people who were killed or injured in this f**king senseless act of selfishness and stupidity.

"In 1985 I was fortunate enough to meet both Darrell and his brother in Dallas on tour. This was the beginning of a friendship that was anchored in love, respect, fun, outrageousness, music…the list goes on."
