LATEST: Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich is anxiously awaiting the results of hospital tests after being taken ill while on tour in Europe.

The musician was forced to pull out of the rockers' gig at the DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL in Britain on Sunday (6JUN04) after suffering a "turn" while travelling in a private jet from Lisbon, Portugal to the UK.

The plane was flown to Germany, where Ulrich was whisked off to hospital while the rest of the band flew onto the DONINGTON PARK event in central England - after Slipknot and Slayer drummers JOEY JORDISON and DAVE LOMBARDO stepped in to save the gig from being cancelled.

A spokesperson for the band says, "He's waiting on results from tests. He's in a German hospital right now."

Metallica are awaiting the test results before deciding if they can carry on the tour - which is due to resume in Ludwigshafen, Germany tonight (8JUN04).
