It could be a historic night for actress Melissa McCarthy, whose role in comedy flick 'Bridesmaids' has earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 2012 Oscars in Los Angeles. So why did the 41-year-old admit to shedding a few tears before setting off on her journey to the Kodak Theatre?
Speaking on the red-carpet, MCCarthy said the designer of her shoes, Brian Atwood, had inscribed a thoughtful message on the bottom of one of her heels, saying, "My friend Brian Atwood made my shoes with a sweet message on the bottom. He wrote, 'Exclusively made for my BFF Melissa MCCarthy on Oscar night", the actress also admitting that the sentiment had brought tears to her eyes. However, by the time she arrived in front of the throng of screaming fans in Los Angeles, MCCarthy was all smiles, saying, "It's crazy on every level. My mom and dad and sister are here with me tonight, and to see them in the midst of all of this is almost keeping me calmer because I'm worried about them. On the way over, I said, 'Oh my God, I think we're going to the Oscars".
Though she was one of the surprise selections when nominations were announced in January, MCCarthy faces difficult competition for the Best Supporting Actress statuette. The Help's Octavia Spencer is considered the favorite for the gong, with The Artist's Berenice Bejo also strongly tipped.
