Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy decided to create her own red carpet gowns after several high-profile designers refused to make her a dress for the Oscars.
The actress, who was an Oscar nominee in 2011 for her role in the wedding comedy, admits she often struggled to find designers willing to dress her for Hollywood's biggest night.
In an interview with Redbook magazine, she says, "When I go shopping, most of the time I'm disappointed. Two Oscars ago, I couldn't find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers - very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people - and they all said no."
The rejection prompted MCCarthy, who studied a textiles course at Southern Illinois University, to create her own plus-size line of clothing with couturier Daniella Pearl, the co-designer of her 2011 Emmys dress.
