Melanie C is 'absolutely delighted' to join the judging panel on 'Superstar' for the live shows to search for the country's perfect protagonist to star in 'Jesus Christ Superstar'.
Ex-Spice Girl, who was known as Sporty Spice in her girl band days, currently acts as a mentor for the contestants on the show and is confirmed to star as the biblical disciple Mary Magdalene. She will join the Itv1 show's other judges, comedienne Dawn French, Australian musician and actor Jason Donovan and musical theatre legend Andrew Lloyd Webber. The appointment of Mel, full name Melanie Chisholm, as a judge was a last minute decision after viewers of the show quickly took to her in the first week. According to The Sun, it was a five-figure deal that was signed to rope the star in to help find the winner, which she told the UK Press Association she'd like to have 'a very powerful voice', 'great acting ability' and 'real charisma'.
'I am absolutely delighted', she said. 'It's been an incredible experience so far and I just can't wait for the nation to decide who will be playing Jesus in the amazing arena tour of the production.' Despite this, she admits that the job will be challenging and she is 'quite happy that it's in the hands of the public to decide [the winner]'. She does add, 'I do have my favourites... But to be honest with you, of the final 10 - they're all fabulous.'
