LATEST: Melanie Chisholm has slammed reports the Spice Girls have been axed from the London leg of the star-studded LIVE 8 gigs, insisting the group is ready to play.

The WANNABE stars - Chisholm, Geri Halliwell, Victoria Beckham, MELANIE BROWN and EMMA BUNTON - plan to reform to play alongside acts including SIR Paul McCartney, Mariah Carey and SIR Elton John at the Hyde Park concert on 2 July (05).

But yesterday (31MAY05) it was reported the Spice Girls were axed from the event after organisers feared they would undermine the show's serious political message about world poverty.

Live 8 organiser SIR Bob Geldof has since confirmed the Spice Girls' invitation and Chisholm is now desperate to convince the other members to take part in the charity event.

She says, "If it would was just for financial gain, I wouldn't be up for it.

"But I think this would be a fantastic opportunity and it's such a great cause which we all really believe in."

A reunion would be the first time the full five-piece line-up of the Spice Girls has performed since 1998.
