Mel Gibson's controversial new film The Passion has been given the blessing of 30,000 religious Californians.

A four-minute trailer for the film, about the final hours of JESUS CHRIST's life, was shown at Anaheim's EDISON INTERNATIONAL FIELD on Friday night (08AUG03) - and won praise from evangelical Christians.

The film drew a stream of negative comments from religious leaders after the first draft of the script was leaked, but California's God-lovers cheered on what they saw of the film.

One fan, BILL GLENN, was thrilled with what he saw of the film, which features a graphic depiction of Christ's crucifixion.

He says, "Mel didn't pull any punches. It's good. It shows what a terrible price Jesus paid for sin."
