Scandal-hit actor Mel Gibson is set to produce a biblical drama about Jewish hero Judah MACcabee.
Gibson is collaborating with screenwriter Joe Eszterhas to tell the story of the celebrated Jewish warrior, who defeated the Greek-Syrian armies in the second century B.C. and inspired the Hanukkah celebration.
According to Reuters, the Braveheart star has the option to direct the project.
If Gibson takes the directing job, it will mark the first time he has stepped behind the camera since Apocalypto in 2006 - the same year he was busted for driving under the influence (Dui). In that same incident, he was alleged to have made a series of anti-Semitic remarks to the arresting officer.
