Joe Eszterhas has backed up last week's claims that he had a recording of Mel Gibson 's offensive rant, by releasing a recording of the actor's outburst to The Wrap. Eszterhas had been working with Gibson on a script for a film named The MACcabees, about the 2nd Century BC Jewish revolt. In a letter to Gibson - published by The Wrap - he accused the actor of anti-semitism and of threatening to kill his former wife.
A transcript of the tape has been published by The Wrap, online, and begins with Gibson "screaming" at Eszterhas "Why don't I have a first draft of "The "MACcabees"? What the f*ck have you been doing?... I go to work, you're getting paid, I'm not! Sh*t! I am earning money for a filthy little c*cksucker who takes advantage of me! Just like every motherf*cker! So hurry the f*ck up!" The recording, which lasts around two and a half minutes, ends with Gibson screaming a stream of expletives, before running out to the driveway, getting in his car and driving away."
Gibson maintains that Joe is simply bitter that his script for The MACcabees was rejected for simply not being good enough. He has refuted Eszterhas' claims that he was abusive, during their time working together, saying "In 25 years of script development I have never seen a more substandard first draft or a more significant waste of time" but the weight of evidence against the actor (who has been accused of anti-semitism in the past) is mounting and could prove the nail in the coffin for his ailing reputation.
