Mel Gibson was forced to call in police on Wednesday (26Jan11) after a DVD copy of his new movie THE BEAVER was stolen from his mailbox outside his Los Angeles home.
Production bosses at Summit Entertainment sent Gibson a copy of the film, directed by Jodie Foster, so he could view the final cut before its world premiere at the upcoming South By Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas.
The Braveheart star screened the picture at his home earlier this week (begs24Jan11) and placed it back in his mailbox ready for collection by a courier on Wednesday.
But the DVD was nowhere to be found when the delivery man arrived to pick up the package - prompting Gibson to report the incident to local authorities.
Officers at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are now investigating the matter as a petty theft, reports TMZ.com.
Cops had yet to name any suspects in the crime as WENN went to press.
