Actor Mel Gibson's blockbuster movie BRAVEHEART has been voted the greatest patriotic movie ever in a poll to mark the ENGLAND soccer team's involvement in EURO 2004.

Gibson's OSCAR-winning film - about outlaw WILLIAM WALLACE who led Scotland's battle for freedom from wicked English King EDWARD I - was followed by three wartime classics BATTLE OF BRITAIN, The Dam Busters and THE GREAT ESCAPE and notorious British comedy THE ITALIAN JOB starring SIR Michael Caine.

STEVE FOULSER - of film rental chain BLOCKBUSTER who commissioned the poll - says, "With Euro 2004 and the ST GEORGE's flag everywhere, we wanted to see which films made people feel really patriotic. It seems there are three main ingredients in making people proud to be British - football, a war movie and, of course, Michael Caine."
