Rising rapper Meek Mill has filed legal papers asking a U.S. judge to lift his travel ban so he can tour overseas.

The Ima Boss hitmaker, real name Robert Williams, was hit with a number of restrictions in 2008 after he was found guilty of assault, gun possession and drug charges.

He was ordered to serve a minimum of 11 months behind bars and was subsequently placed on probation.

However, a further travel ban was issued last month (Nov12) after he skipped a court hearing on Halloween (31Oct12), and now his lawyers are fighting back against the ruling.

On Wednesday (12Dec12), attorneys for the 25 year old filed a request for leniency in the star's native Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, insisting Williams' earning power has suffered as a result of the ban, according to NBC.com.

But Assistant District Attorney Noel DeSantis insists she will oppose the motion, telling The Philadelphia Inquirer she already allowed him to cut short his sentence by only serving eight months of his jail term.
