Legendary poet Maya Angelou regrets collaborating with Common on his latest track The Dreamer because the tune is littered with vulgarities.
The hip-hop star befriended Pulitzer Prize nominee Angelou at a fundraiser he was organising after she stepped in as a guest speaker at the last minute and he recently turned to the veteran author for help once again while putting together his new album The Dreamer/The Believer.
The celebrated writer penned and read an uplifting poem for Common's project - but after hearing the final track, which contains the derogatory term "n**ger", Angelou admits she's less that impressed with the "vulgar" tune.
She tells the New York Post, "I had no idea that Common was using the piece we had done together on (a track) in which he also used the 'N' word numerous times... I'm surprised and disappointed. I don't know why he chose to do that. I had never heard him use that (word) before. I admired him so much because he wasn't singing the line of least resistance."
