Jean Paul Gaultier has become the new creative director of Diet Coke.

The iconic designer will take over from Karl Lagerfeld at the world famous soft drinks company and will work on a range of projects over the next 12 months.

In homage to his curvaceous perfume bottles, his Diet Coke model will be in the shape of a woman, saying: ''It was great fun to dress them. The Diet Coke motif is so beautiful I had to design around this. The finishing touch was to apply my logo to the bottle, like applying a fragile stamp - making it something special you want to touch.''

Vivienne Westwood Heston Blumenthal Janice Dickinson Matthew Williamson Queen Elizabeth II The Front

Dame Vivienne Westwood believes modern day people have an ''ugly'' dress sense.

The 70-year-old designer - who is credited by many as starting the punk scene in the 1970s - thinks historical figures had a better idea of how to clothe themselves and encourages buyers to think more about their purchases rather than getting into ''disposable c**p''.

She said: ''In history people dressed much better than we do today.

Cat Deeley Wants Mcqueen Dress Framed

Cat Deeley Alexander McQueen Luciano Pavarotti Matthew Williamson

Cat Deeley is so in love with a couture Alexander McQueen dress she is going to get it framed.

The 'So You Think You Can Dance' host splashed out on a very rare creation by the late designer a few years ago but admits she is yet to wear it out and is considering getting it stored in a safe place where she can still admire it.

She said: "It's the first piece of couture I bought. It's a tea-stained colour with whispers of spider web, net and tulle. It's the most beautifully exquisite dress. I haven't worn it to an event yet and, to be honest, I may never do so. I may just get it framed. Most of my friends have tried it on - they come round to my house and we drink champagne and dance around to Pavarotti while we take pictures of us wearing it. It was very expensive but it was in the sale and there were only two made."
